What Does Epoxy Zinc Phosphate Primers Mean?

Epoxy Zinc phosphate primers is used to produce epoxy primers and sealers that have a non-porous finish. They are primarily recommended as a first base coat on bare steel. These base coats or epoxy primers are also used on fiberglass, plastic or black iron phosphate coatings.

Epoxy zinc phosphate primer can also be used over cracks and dents. It has excellent bonding ability and provides good surface finish. Epoxy primers not only provide excellent adhesion to metals but also serve as a suitable base for subsequent undercoat products and topcoats or paints.

Sometimes, adding an extra layer before you paint can give your metal surface the extra strength to do the job properly. Although there are many to choose from, not all are as universally beneficial as zinc phosphate coating.

Corrosionpedia explains Epoxy Zinc Phosphate

Epoxy Zinc phosphate primers contains zinc phosphate, which acts as a corrosion-resistant pigment. Epoxy primers are used for waterproofing materials to protect bare metal from oxidation.

A dry, very clean surface is essential before applying the epoxy primer. Two-part epoxy primers must be thoroughly mixed before use.

Since paint must resist corrosion in the automotive and marine industries, epoxy coatings are widely used as primers for adhesion to metal surfaces. Epoxy primers are also used in structural steel coatings for high-build thicknesses using only one or two coats.

A two-part epoxy primer is also known as a structural steel primer. It consists of two components that are chemically fixed by cross-linking. This two-part epoxy primer forms a film that is resistant to abrasion, chemicals and moisture. It is very suitable for use on properly prepared steel and concrete. This primer is also recommended for power plants, marine applications, water treatment plants and tank exteriors.

Why do we use zinc in our primers?

What Is the Basics and Advantage of Liquid Paint Coating?

Metal fabricators looking to finish need to be aware of the two most common finishing options - liquid and powder coating - and the requirements of the company hoping to apply one or both.

What is the liquid paint coating?

Introduction

The basic raw materials for making a liquid paint coating are additives, carriers, pigments and resins. Additives make up the smallest part of any liquid paint coating composition, but they offer special features throughout the finish; For example, they can help prevent rust or UV protection.

The carrier is the main liquid paint used to make the paint. The carrier can be water, solvent or a mixture of both. Heavy liquid paint coatings in solvents have traditionally been the dominant form of liquid finishes applied to metal parts, but more interest has been directed at waterborne and high-solid coatings, which release minimal amounts of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) during application. Compared to traditional solvent-derived coatings.

Pigments play a role in finishing and performance to some extent. As a rule, the amount of pigment affects the gloss of the film. The higher the pigment, the lower the gloss of the coating. Resins act as the base of the liquid paint coating. They primarily control the overall performance of the coating, helping to make the paint excellent for specific applications.

Liquid paint coating finish can be applied in different thicknesses. Of course, the more mills are applied the better the protection. In most cases, a manufacturer, such as an automaker, will try to balance the maximum protection with the minimum paint mill thickness.

The Benefits of Liquid Paint

Liquid paint is made using many different chemicals and choosing the right color for a given application is a science in itself.

One of the most significant advantages associated with liquid paint is the ability to easily change color on the site. Although color change with e-coat is not practical and less difficult to implement with powder coating, the process of color change can also be cumbersome. Liquid paint systems, on the other hand, are designed to easily change color in one booth. They are also more flexible, as colors can be mixed on site according to the given features.

Liquid paints can also be formulated to act as a primer with special corrosion-resistant additives. While some formulas are designed to be used as intermediate coatings with special fillers to create thickness and provide a smooth surface for top-coating preparations, others are engineered to be applied to intermediate coatings, especially metal base color coatings for special pigments and special effects.

Why Outsource?

Liquid coating systems with appropriate auxiliary equipment, such as treatment systems for process chemicals, represent significant capital and personnel investments. For low-to-medium production volumes, outsourcing can be a cost-effective way to reap the benefits of a commercial liquid paint application without the additional cost of running an in-house coating line.

When the amount of product reaches a level that can be justified by an in-house system, the decision to outsource liquid paint becomes more complicated than the “make or buy” valuation. At that moment, it also becomes a "strategic" decision that requires answers to two basic questions: "What is our business?" And "Do we want to run coatings operations?"

Other Liquid Paint Characteristics

Zigma Paints Services also recommends liquid paints for certain applications to take advantage of the following features:

  • Liquid paints offer cure temperature versatility. Some formulas can heal at room temperature, while some can heal faster in a baked oven.

  • Unlike e-coat or powder coat, liquid paint can be applied to fully assembled equipment such as large construction or material handling products.

  • Masking is more feasible than other coating technologies.

Tailored Products and Services

Recent advances in liquid paint technology have led to the creation of many unique formulations for specific businesses and applications. For example, a new liquid paint used on automotive exhaust system components is engineered to withstand very high operating temperatures, while a separate product has been developed to give a “gripper, soft-feel” texture after curing write-pen barrels. No matter how specific the application, Zigma Paints Services has the experience and expertise to design and build an in-house coating system specifically for that use.

Full-Service Provider

Zigma Paints Services offers liquid coating services in many US states and other countries. Complementary technologies, such as electrocoating and powder coating, are available as additional coating service options at specific locations.

Renowned for the capabilities of technology groups, equipment departments and experienced teams, Zigma Paints  has earned a reputation for providing integrated, integrated. Affordable coating solutions.

What is an Etching primer? And its use

Etch Primer is a combination product. When acting as a primer, the product is etched on the surface of metal or fiberglass. This allows you to ensure better paint adhesion in fewer steps, streamlining your painting project while protecting the underlying material.

Etch Primers

Picture this: You are about to start a metal or fiberglass painting project and you want to get it first. Since metal and fiberglass are often challenging to paint, you know you need to find the right primer. As you explore your options, you'll come across something you haven't used before: an etching primer. But what is an etching primer and is it the best primer for work?

If you want to get a closer look at what an etching primer is, here's what you need to know.

What Is an Etching Primer?

Etching primer is a special primer designed for metal and fiberglass. Generally, it contains substances like phosphoric acid and zinc. After applying that component in the primer, the surface gets scratched, which gives the fiberglass or metal a more rough surface. It sticks well.

In some cases, unlike traditional primers, an Etching primer can also be a surface primer for painting. Specific versions offer a lot of protection to the underlying material, preventing damage, rust and oxidation while providing the right surface for painting.

However, some Etching primers are less adept at protecting the underlying material. As such, it can serve as a base coat for a second primer with more protection.

The main advantage of an Etching primer is that you can usually avoid a cumbersome sanding phase during the painting project. The ability to mold makes sanding unnecessary in most cases, although primer features give you a clean, workable surface for primer or paint.

How to Use Etch Primer

The Uses and Application of Spray-On Etch Primer

Difficulty: Easy

Etch Primer is a very versatile primer designed to be applied directly to bare metal and should be used when you want to make an overcoat and sand. Ech primers also protect against rust. Ech primer contains a very mild acid that corrodes the metal, creating an even stronger bond between the surface and the primer, resulting in excellent adhesion. Not sure if Etch Primer is right for your project? Click here to see different types of primers.

Safety

Anything in an aerosol can harm your health, so be prepared before using a spray-on itch primer. A ventilator mask is the best way to protect your respiratory system and you should only apply primer to ventilated areas. You may also want to use goggles and gloves.

You should always keep the primer away from fire as it is highly flammable and if it gets too hot the can can explode.

Step 1: Preparing Your Surface

To create your surface, you need to clean it. If it is dirty or greasy, your product will not stick. Use a good car cleaner and microfiber cloth to make sure the area you are priming is washed properly.

Next, wrap a 400-grit wet or dry sheet around the sanding block and scrub the surface using plenty of water. This step will greatly help in adhesion. Be sure to wear a mask when sanding. Wipe off any sand particles with a clean, dry cloth.

Your surface should now be clean, dry and ready to be primed.

Step 2: Applying Primer

Move your box properly. This is important because if you do not move it enough, the primer will not mix properly and you will get an uneven coating. If in doubt, go beyond your expectations; You can move very little, but not much.

Hold the can 20-30 cm away from your surface and spray, move the can to the side, cover slightly. It is a good idea to keep the same distance as this will help the primer to be applied evenly.

Wait for the first coat to dry for about three minutes before repeating the second coat. If you feel the need, you can apply a third coat after the second coat has dried.

Step 3: Sanding

Wait 15 minutes for the primer to dry. Now, you can take the 400-grit wet or dry paper and sand once more with water. This will help the topcoat stick to the primer even better.

Now, your surface should be primed and ready for an overcoat.
